Dr. Niklas Swanström visited Myanmar

Dr. Niklas Swanström, ISDP director, visited Myanmar from the 5th – 11th March 2017. During his stay, Dr. Swanström met with senior government officials in Nay Pyi Taw including from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Border Affairs and representatives of various Peace Process Bodies to discuss Myanmar’s transition, peace process and possible areas for cooperation.

During his visit, Dr. Swanström made a presentation at the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday 7th March 2017. Dr. Swanström presented on both Contemporary Chinese Foreign Policy and Regional Security Policy. There were roughly 30 participants in attendance at the presentation, including Directors from different departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There was a lively question and answers at the conclusion of both presentations, which included a discussion of Myanmar and Sweden’s neutrality.

Dr. Swanström made further presentations at the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (MISIS) and at the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters on Negotiation and Facilitation that were well attended and appreciated by participants.
