ISDP FORUM on TRANSNATIONAL CRIME with Per Larsson

PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law, Stockholm University

Thursday, December 9, 2010, 12:00-14:00

Corruption undermines democratic institutions, slows economic development and contributes to governmental instability. This seminar will focus on the massive scale of global corruption resulting from bribery and undue influence on public policy. It will show how corrupt practices constitute a destructive force that undermines fair competition and how entrusted people use their power for personal gain.

Mr. Larsson is a PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law, Stockholm University where he writes his thesis on whistle blowing and corruption in the context of the United Nations and the World Bank. He is also active as an international consultant and has conducted more than 20 international consultancy assignments for organizations such as the European Commission, the United Nations, the Nordic Council of Ministers, EUPOL, the International Commission of Jurists, the Folke Bernadotte Academy and the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation. The assignments have been conducted partly or completely in countries such as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kenya, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Kosovo and Georgia.

Between 2002 and 2008, Mr. Larsson served three international organizations – the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Nordic Council of Ministers. Between 2002 and 2004, Mr Larsson served as a Programme Manager for UNDP in Ukraine; in 2004 he served for six months as a Human Rights Advisor for the OSCE in Kosovo; and between 2005 and 2008 he was a Senior Advisor at the Nordic Council of Ministers in Copenhagen.
