China’s Rising Military Power and its Implications

Thursday, November 17, 2011, 10:00 – 12:00

China’s rising military power and its implications in the coming decades is a big issue that has attracted attention from the international community and political elites across the globe. Some argue that how China use its newfound power – especially its military power – will determine the course of the twenty-first century. Major Jiao will examine the driving forces behind China’s military modernization efforts in the past years, followed by judgments on the goals and focus of China’s military modernization drive at present and in the foreseeable future, ultimately with an analysis into its implications domestically and internationally.

Major Jiao Liang is an assistant research fellow of the World Military Studies Department, Academy of Military Science, Chinese People’s Liberation Army. His researches focus on US military affairs and Sino-US military relations. He has published dozens of articles relating to the abovementioned fields.
