ISDP Forum: Engaging Central Asia and the Caucasus – “The Long Game on the Silk Road”

This ISDP Forum marks the launch of a new book, The Long Game on the Silk Road: US and EU Strategy for Central Asia and the Caucasus, by S. Frederick Starr and Svante E. Cornell. A presentation by Svante E. Cornell, Director of ISDP will be followed by remarks from Ingrid Tersman, Ambassador to Ashgabat, Baku, Dushanbe, Tashkent. The Forum will be moderated by Lars Vargö, Distinguished Fellow at ISDP. 

Drawing on ISDP’s many years of interaction with the region, the book takes stock of both American and European policies toward Central Asia and the Caucasus. It acknowledges the many achievements, but argues that Western policies suffer from serious and unacknowledged conceptual and structural flaws. The authors propose concrete ways to address these issues and render U.S. and European policies more effective.
