Chienyu Shih
Chienyu Shih is an associate research fellow in the Division of National Security Research at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, Taiwan. He specializes in Chinese frontier policy, with particular reference to China’s policy towards Taiwan and Hong Kong, and also modern Uyghur nationalism and diaspora politics, and their impact on China relations with neighboring states and regions in Indo-Pacific and Central Asia. He has conducted fieldwork in Japan, Europe and the US, and Kazakhstan and Turkey for the last 20 years. He has taught and lectured at universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong. He completed his MSc in international politics from the SOAS University of London, and PhD in social and culture studies at National Yangming Chiaotung University, Taiwan.
