September 4, 2023: Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs, was quoted in the South China Morning Post on India not wanting Brics to be a China-dominated forum. He said that India supported the inclusion of the UAE to “balance out Chinese influence”.
“Delhi would aim to have a few reliable partners in the Brics forum that can minimise or pose occasional challenges … on Chinese influence,” Jagannath Panda said, adding that the bloc strengthens India’s position as a “credible economy” from the Global South.
