For over a century, women have organized themselves in support of peace and disarmament. However, both in civil society operations as well as more formal peace negotiations a lack of female representation is prevalent. On occasion of the International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament, which has been celebrated since the 1980’s, ISDP wishes to invite you to this Forum on “Women, Peace and Disarmament”. Ms. Petra Tötterman Andorff, Deputy Secretary General of Kvinna till Kvinna, and Ms. Malin Nilsson, President of the Swedish section of the Women’s International League för Peace and Freedom (WILPF), will form the panel, exploring women’s role in disarmament and peacebuilding and the lack of female representation in official negotiations, before opening the discussion for questions from the audience.

Ms. Petra Tötterman Andorff is the Deputy Secretary General of Kvinna till Kvinna, a women human rights organization active in conflict areas. She has experience in gender perspectives on development aid, disarmament and security policy from a wide variety of organisations, such as WILPF Sweden and WILPF UN Office in New York as well as contributing to the formation of Operation 1325. She has MSc degrees in Development studies and in Peace and Conflict Studies..

Ms. Malin Nilsson began her career with WILPF Sweden, of which she is also the president, and has since been active with organisations such as Swedish Network for Nuclear Disarmament. She currently works for the Stockholm China Economic Research Institute. She has a BA in Peace and Conflict studies from Malmö University and a MSc in Asian studies from Lund University.
