April 23, 2024: Anna Wieslander, Chair of the ISDP Board, was interviewed by CNN Greece on the Swedish NATO membership.
“Having Sweden and Finland in the alliance is a strategic breakthrough for NATO. It is very important for the defense of Northern Europe to have one strategic operational area. Sweden is the fifth largest country in Europe, and has the longest coastline in the Baltic Sea, adding land, water and the airspace above to NATO’s operational area. This integration makes it possible for NATO to operate seamlessly across borders in the whole Nordic area, facilitating the defense of the Baltics, Poland, and other frontline states closest to possible Russian aggression.”
