Jagannath Panda delivers a keynote speech at an event organized by the Japan Foundation and the Stratbase ADR Institute in Manila

March 8, 2024: Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs, delivered a Keynote address at the Japan Foundation (Manila) and Stratbase ADR Institute (Philippines) joint conference titled “Bridging Borders: Triangular Cooperation for Regional Prosperity between the Philippines, India, and Japan” held on 1st March 2024. Dr. Panda’s speech was titled “India-Japan-Philippines: A Strategic Maritime Trilateral or More?”. As an outcome, he published a FOCUS ASIA paper recently at the ISDP on the same topic. Mr. Ben Suzuki, Director of The Japan Foundation, delivered a Welcome remark at the conference, while Prof. Victor Andres Manhit, President of the Stratbase ADR Institute, delivered Closing Remarks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This event was attended by several dignitaries, media persons, international experts, and officials. Mr. Kenichi Matsuda, Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of Japan in the Philippines; H.E. Shambu Santha Kumaran, Embassy of India in the Philippines; and Madam Theresa Lazaro, the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines attended the event.

Additionally, Dr. Jagannath Panda delivered a talk titled ‘India in a World of Asymmetrical Multipolarity vis-à-vis China’ on 27th February 2024 at the Asian Center of the University of Philippines in Diliman, Philippines. This event was organized by FACTS Asia in cooperation with the Asian Center of the UP at the GT-TOYOTA Hall of Wisdom.

Dean Prof. Henelito Sevilla delivered the Welcome Remarks, and Prof. Herman Kraft was the moderator of the event. Experts AND scholars from the University of the Philippines, FACTS Asia, and the strategic fraternity in the Philippines attended the event. This event generated several issues, including India’s rise in world affairs, the China-South China Sea, and India-Philippines relations in the Indo-Pacific.

Dr. Panda also visited the Polytechnic University of Philippines and delivered a talk on ‘India and Philippines in a Multipolar World Order’. Prof. Christopher C. Mantillas, Associate Dean, College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) received Dr. Panda, and Mr. Joshua Espeña hosted the seminar at the PuP.
