Jagannath Panda was quoted in NIKKEI Asia on whether Trump’s potential election would be beneficial for India or not

April 22, 2024: Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs, was quoted in NIKKEI Asia on whether Trump’s potential election would be beneficial for India or not.

“Whether Trump’s election is beneficial for India will depend on how he deals with China and a number of regional issues, including trade and economic contacts with India,” said Jagannath Panda.

“It would be good for India if Trump took a tough stance towards China and sees India as a reliable future partner, both [in] the security and economic sphere. But if Trump goes for a less-than-sophisticated deal, he will be undesirable for India, and the India-U.S. ties might be a low-key affair despite all the continued cooperation.”

“India, in particular, will be watching [Trump’s] China policy very closely,” Panda said.
