Josephine Ørgaard Rasmussen in Göteborgs-Posten about the situation in South Korea, where President Yoon Suk-yeol declared emergency martial law

December 4, 2024: Josephine Ørgaard Rasmussen, Project Coordinator at the Stockholm Korea Center, was interviewed by Göteborgs-Posten about the extraordinary situation in South Korea, where President Yoon Suk-yeol declared emergency martial law on December 3, 2024.

“There has been a lot of tension between the parties because the opposition has the majority in parliament. Polls also show that South Koreans don’t believe in the president either,” says Josephine Ørgaard Rasmussen.

“This was probably a gamble on his part. He doesn’t have much to lose and now he has played all his cards.”

It’s hard to say what effect the situation will have in South Korea.
