January 27, 2025: Niklas Swanström, ISDP’s Executive Director, was interviewed by Yle on how Trump uses Tiktok as a weapon in looming trade war with China.
“I think the Chinese realize that they have to find something to compromise on,” says Niklas Swanström. “But in order not to lock themselves in or confront Trump, they choose to wait him out to act afterwards.”
“That’s the big problem for Beijing. You can deal with Trump and wait him out. But the Chinese population is another matter. There is a growing nationalism, and a demand for Xi Jinping to stand up for China.”
