Niklas Swanström participated in the 2023 Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavík

October 23, 2023: Niklas Swanström, ISDP’s Executive Director, participated in the 2023 Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavík (October 19-21, 2023).

He joined the panel “Comprehensive Security in the new Arctic Region” on October 21.

Niklas Swanström also presented his recent book “Towards a Sustainable Arctic: International Security, Climate Change and Green Shipping”.

The Arctic’s environment, economics, and politics are changing rapidly, and the conflicting interests among stakeholders mean that it lacks sustainable political and military cooperation. This book, edited by Niklas Swanström and Michael Evan Goodsite, provides a snapshot of the subject areas connecting transport, environmental security, resource development, and military security, featuring new material written after Russia’s second invasion of Ukraine.
