Marcin Grabowski, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Political Science and International Relations of the Jagiellonian University of Krakow and the Director of the Centre for International Studies and Development.

Marcin has graduated in International Relations from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He studied at Columbia University in the City of New York (School of International and Public Affairs), George Washington University in Washington (Sigur Center for Asian Studies), and the University of California, San Diego, where he completed the Global Leadership Institute program. He has prepared a Ph.D. dissertation The United States and the Economic Integration of the Pacific Rim since 1989, with a Special Focus on APEC and ASEAN, awarded in Jozef Kukulka Contest for the Best Dissertation Dealing with the Theory of International Relations.

He served as an advisor to the Polish Minister of Higher Education and Science – in the framework of the Young Scholars’ Council (2011-2013). Marcin is a chairman of the Krakow branch of the Polish International Studies Association and the vice-chair of the Global International Relations Section of the International Studies Association (ISA). He also serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Central and East European International Studies Association, as well as a Representative of Poland on the EADI Executive Committee (2023 – present) and the Treasurer of the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI).

Marcin’s research interests focus on the Asia-Pacific Rim, especially institutional arrangements of the region (APEC, ASEM, ASEAN, EAS, ARF, SAARC), American and Chinese foreign policies, theories of IR, with a special focus on complexity theory, and the International Economics. He conducted his research i.a. at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat in Seoul, the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy in Seoul, Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of the Waseda University in Tokyo, East Asian Bureau of Economic Research (EABER) in Canberra, Nordic Institute of Asian Studies in Copenhagen, Berkeley APEC Study Center or Reischauer Center for East Asia Studies, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University. He taught at numerous universities, including Manipal University (India), University of Calcutta (India), Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain), Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), and University College Cork (Ireland).

He has been a co-editor of two book series Encounters with Complexity, Routledge (with Emilian Kavalski) and International Relation in Asia, Africa and the Americas: Politics, Economy, Society – Transdisciplinary Perspectives, Peter Lang Verlag (with Andrzej Mania). He has been the author, editor, or co-editor of 12 books and numerous articles.
